About this test

How can a thyroid blood test help you?

This test checks your thyroid function and helps you understand if your symptoms might be due to a thyroid disorder, like an overactive or underactive thyroid. It also checks to see if you're getting enough of the nutrients needed for a healthy thyroid or whether your symptoms may be due to key vitamins and minerals deficiencies.

An underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism) and overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism) could explain :

  • weight loss or weight gain
  • shaking and tremors
  • increased irritability, anxiety, or depression
  • fatigue and lack of energy
  • muscle aches, cramps, or weakness
  • low sex drive (libido)
  • irregular or heavy periods

Once diagnosed, your thyroid function needs to be monitored to ensure your thyroid hormone levels are optimal. With a GP report and advice on how to maintain or improve your results, we help you understand how to support your thyroid function.

We recommend doing a thyroid blood test every 3 months if you have an underactive or overactive thyroid.

What's covered in this blood test?

  • Advanced thyroid profile: Your thyroid gland produces hormones that help control your metabolism. If it isn't working properly it can cause mood problems and weight gain or loss. A blood test can check for thyroid disorders.
  • Vitamin D: Vitamin D plays a key role in your long-term health, particularly your bone health. It's also important for a strong immune system and is linked to your sleep, energy levels, and mood.
  • Ferritin: Ferritin can help you understand more about your iron levels - a nutrient that helps transport oxygen around your body. If your levels are low, it can affect your energy, sleep, and fitness.
  • Active vitamin B12: Active vitamin B12 is the amount of vitamin B12 your body can actually use. Low vitamin B12 levels can make you feel depressed and might affect your sleep and fitness.
