The Blue Horizon Vaginal Microbiome Test looks at genetic data from an easily collected vaginal swab sample, tested at a fully accredited and cutting edge laboratory (the method used is qPCR, 16S rRNA amplicon sequencing). Our laboratory report includes considerable detail both in terms of the targets tested, and in the content of the report - which is far more comprehensive than other reports that we have encountered. For example - our laboratory includes detailed analysis of the 4 different species of Lactobacillus (which have been shown to be important in vaginal microbiome health and composition stability) whereas many reports will include all species under one headline. Similarly - Candida species (which cause thrush) are often grouped under one heading, but there are in fact 4 known species - each is identified in our test.

So, very importantly, our test looks at the whole biome - no fewer than 25 species of bacteria and yeast may be identified - and it is a sensitive enough test to identify all relevant species, rather than grouping them together and losing relevant detail. Not all Biome tests are the same!
