How do I know which test or bundle I need for my destination?

By using our COVID-19 test filter, we'll show you the cheapest and most suitable bundle for the country you are visiting. We'll include the specific pre-departure test, UK pre-arrivals remote test, and arrivals test(s) you'll need. We'll also show you the tests you can buy individually, in case you don't want to purchase the tests all in one go as part of a bundle.

Each country's travel requirements are reviewed and updated according to the information on the https://help.virginatlantic.com/gb/en/travel-restrictions.html and Delta travel requirements pages. We strongly recommend that you review the COVID-19 testing requirements for your destination, either on the UK Government's website, or via your destination's government website.

The purpose of our filter is to be that of a helpful guide only, as it is a customer's responsibility to have reviewed the latest travel regulations, and purchase the COVID-19 tests required for entering their destination and/or England.

What happens if my flight is cancelled or changed?

All customers have the right to end their contract with Prenetics. However, this will depend on the type of test kit and at what point in the process you decide to end the contract.

Please review our Terms of Service or Refund Policy for further information.

What happens if the entry requirements change for my destination?

For pre-departure test kits, as we dispatch orders immediately, please see our Cancellation and Refund policies here.

For arrival tests, we are able to upgrade or downgrade your arrival test kit(s) up until the day before we are due to dispatch your test kit(s).

How accurate are the COVID-19 tests by Project Screen?

Prenetics uses test kits which are approved for use for COVID-19 testing by the United Kingdom healthcare regulatory authorities (Medicines & Healthcare products Regulatory Agency - 'MHRA') and our laboratories are also registered by the Care Quality Commission and comply with the relevant international testing standard [1]. This means all products, personnel and processes used in our COVID-19 testing process are subject to a rigorous quality management regime and external validation. Despite this, all diagnostic testing generates a very small percentage of false results so we can never guarantee the accuracy of every result - the Lancet reported that "RT-PCR tests to detect severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) RNA are the operational gold standard for detecting COVID-19 disease in clinical practice. RT-PCR assays in the UK have analytical sensitivity and specificity of greater than 95%, but no single gold standard assay exists" [2].

2. https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lanres/article/PIIS2213-2600%2820%2930453-7/fulltext

All samples are sent to our UK-based laboratory for analysis. Our laboratory partners are UKAS accredited or UKAS applicants and DHSC validated, and use RT-PCR assays that have the highest levels of accuracy based on the QCED UK EQAP program.

+

How long do the results take?

For PCR tests: Within 24 hours of us receiving your swab at our UK-based laboratory, your sample will be analysed, and your results will be delivered securely online. You will be notified by email when your results are ready.

For Lateral Flow Antigen tests: You'll receive your results online within 20 minutes.

+

Should I pay for a test or get a free NHS test?

The UK Government's website states that travellers cannot use the National Health Service (NHS) PCR tests for pre-departure or arrival testing. The NHS PCR tests are strictly for people who:

  • Are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms
  • Have been in contact with someone who's tested positive
  • Have been asked to test by a local council or someone from NHS Test and Trace
  • Have been asked to test by a GP or another health professional
  • Are taking part in a government pilot project
  • Have been asked to confirm a positive or inconclusive test result
  • Are in the National Tactical Response Group

Travellers may be fined if they are found to be using a NHS PCR test and must book a PCR COVID-19 test through a private provider.

What is the difference between lateral flow antigen and PCR COVID-19 tests?

Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests are often seen as the ""gold standard"" COVID-19 test for identifying clinical cases of coronavirus infection because they require laboratory analysis. The PCR is a diagnostic test that detects the virus’s RNA (genetic material) in a sample taken from a nose and throat swab. Once a sample is at the laboratory, enzymes known as 'reverse transcriptase' and 'DNA polymerase', are added to the swab to make copies of any viral RNA that is present. Copies of the RNA are picked up by 'primers' which show the genetic material has been found. As PCR tests require laboratory analysis, once a sample has been received by the laboratory, results typically take around 24 hours to be released to a customer.

Although they are also swab tests, lateral flow antigen test are quite different. Rather than detecting viral genetic material, lateral flow antigen tests detect proteins specific to coronavirus in the sample to detect if people have the virus. Lateral flow antigen tests perform well with high viral loads, so they are good at determining if someone is infectious with coronavirus. As lateral flow antigen tests do not require laboratory analysis, they return results faster - usually within 20 minutes - and work similarly to pregnancy tests.

What happens if I test positive while abroad before flying back to England?

Before flying to England, ensure you are following the UK Government's travel testing guidelines. Get advice about travelling abroad, including the latest information on coronavirus, safety and security, entry requirements and travel warnings.

If you test positive before your return flight to England, you must not travel. You must follow your destination's local rules and guidance for positive coronavirus cases. You should conduct a second Covid-19 test, specifically a PCR test to confirm your coronavirus status, and expect to quarantine for a certain period of time or until you test negative. If the result is inconclusive, you must take another PCR test.

British nationals who need consular assistance should contact the nearest consulate, embassy or high commission.

+

What happens if my lateral flow antigen test result is inconclusive?

If your remote lateral flow antigen test result is inconclusive before your return flight to England, you will need to conduct a second COVID-19 test, specifically a PCR test to confirm your coronavirus status, and expect to quarantine for a certain period of time or until you test negative.

How do I send my home test sample to the laboratory?

We will do our very best to make sure that we can support you in getting your sample to the laboratory safely and securely.

You can do any of the following:

1. Free Royal Mail Tracked 24
2. Prenetics drop off locations
3. Self-arranged private courier

1. Free Royal Mail Tracked 24

All of our COVID-19 home test kits include free Royal Mail Tracked 24 return mailers to post your completed sample to our laboratory. Send your test kit back using the free Royal Mail return envelope provided via a Royal Mail Priority Postbox Monday - Friday. You can find your nearest Priority Postbox here. When researching your nearest Royal Mail Priority postbox, remember to consider the collection days and last collection times for a postbox. This should help ensure your sample arrives promptly at the laboratory. Please bear in mind that Royal Mail has limited or no service on Saturdays or Sundays, therefore kits should not be put in a postbox on a Saturday or Sunday with return to the lab expected on that day. Use the following table to understand when your sample(s) will arrive at our laboratory according to the day you posted your sample.

2. Prenetics drop off locations

By dropping off at one of our locations, your sample will be collected by courier and delivered directly to the laboratory. Depending on which Test Pod you drop your sample off at, the average time for samples arriving at the laboratory ranges from 6:30pm - 11pm. Please note that samples must be returned before the courier arrives and passed by hand to the staff member on site. Staff members sit within the Pod. For each pod, the courier arrives at closing time. For example, the closing time for the Dartford Pod is 4pm so the courier arrives at, or shortly after, 4pm. Prenetics does not accept any liability for lost or delayed samples that are dropped at the Test Pods out of hours and refunds will not be issued.

3. Self-arranged private courier

You can use a private courier. We recommend this option if you need to return your sample over the weekend to receive your COVID-19 results on a specific date. Please arrange a private courier to collect your sample and deliver it directly to our laboratory, at the following address: Prenetics Labs (Project Screen), Phoenix Avenue, Greenwich, London, SE10 0ER.
