How do I know which test or bundle I need for my destination?

By using our Covid-19 test filter, we'll show you the cheapest and most suitable bundle for the country you are visiting. We'll include the specific pre-departure test, UK pre-arrivals remote test, and arrivals test(s) you'll need. We'll also show you the tests you can buy individually, in case you don't want to purchase the tests all in one go as part of a bundle.

Fit to Fly, Day 2 Test and Test to Release are all PCR tests. Fit to Fly costs less than the other two, can I just buy that test instead?

No, the Day 2 arrival test and Test to Release tests include the additional assay and viral genome sequencing required by the UK Government for the detection of variants of concern. These additional tests are not required for the outbound-only Fit to Fly PCR test.

What happens if my flight is cancelled or changed?

If your flight is cancelled and you no longer need your Covid-19 tests, you can cancel your home test kit(s) and if we haven’t dispatched your test kit(s), you will receive a full refund. If we have dispatched your PCR test kit(s) order and you have not activated the test(s), we will offer a full refund minus £20 administration fee, with an additional £10 per each additional PCR test kit to a maximum of £50. If you have activated your test(s) or sent your completed PCR sample(s) to our laboratory for analysis, unfortunately, we cannot offer you a refund as your sample will be analysed by the laboratory. If we have dispatched your lateral flow antigen test kit(s), we will not provide a refund and you can use this test at a later date.

If your flight is changed to a later date/time and you haven't conducted your sample, you do not need to worry as the test kits are still valid and only expire after one year. If your flight is changed to a later date/time and you have taken your sample, which will now be invalid for the required testing window for your flight, please contact our customer support team who will arrange another test for you as quickly as possible.

If your flight is changed to an earlier date/time and you are concerned your sample will not be processed in time for your flight when sending to the laboratory via Royal Mail Tracked 24, please review our other sample return options here.

We are able to upgrade or downgrade your arrival test kit(s) up until the day before we are due to dispatch your test kit(s).

Lateral flow antigen to PCR upgrade: If your destination's requirements change from accepting lateral flow antigen tests to requiring PCR tests, if we have not dispatched your order, we will cancel your pre-departure lateral flow antigen test and provide a full refund. What happens if my destination country's colour changes on the 'UK's traffic light system'?

The UK Government's 'traffic light system' categorises countries based on different Covid-19 factors including the rate of infection, the prevalence of variants of concern, the percentage of their population that have been vaccinated, and the country's access to reliable scientific data and genomic sequencing. The restrictions for inbound passengers include 10-day managed quarantine, home quarantine, and stringent testing - but these will apply to people differently, depending on whether the destination visited is categorised as ‘green’, ‘amber’ or ‘red’:

Green: arrivals will need to take a pre-departure test, as well as a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test on or before day 2 of their arrival to England - but will not need to quarantine on return (unless they receive a positive result) or take any additional tests

Amber: arrivals will need to quarantine for a period of 10 days and take a pre-departure test, and a PCR test on day 2 and day 8 with the option for Test to Release on day 5 to end self-isolation early

Red: arrivals will be subject to restrictions currently in place for ‘red list’ countries which include a 10-day stay in a managed quarantine hotel, pre-departure testing and PCR testing on day 2 and 8

If at the time of booking your Covid-19 tests your destination country is on the green list and it moves to the amber list, please contact our customer support team who will send you a purchase link to upgrade your arrival tests to our Travel Test Package - the mandatory day 2 and 8 arrival PCR tests.

If at the time of booking your Covid-19 tests your destination country is on the amber list and it changes to the green list, please contact our customer support team who will amend your arrival tests from the Travel Test Package: day 2 and 8 PCR tests, to only the mandatory day 2 arrivals test, and will arrange for the difference in test price be refunded to you.

If your destination country moves from either green or amber to the red list, you will be required to quarantine in a hotel on arrival to England and cannot use the arrival tests from Project Screen. Please contact our customer support team at care@projectscreen.co.uk to cancel your arrival test(s). You will need to book your new arrival tests through the UK Government's website.

If you wish you cancel your Covid-19 tests due to any country colour code changes, please contact our our customer support team at care@projectscreen.co.uk. You can cancel your home test kit(s) and if we haven’t dispatched your test kit(s), you will receive a full refund.

  • Are experiencing Covid-19 symptoms
  • Have been in contact with someone who's tested positive
  • Have been asked to test by a local council or someone from NHS Test and Trace
  • Have been asked to test by a GP or another health professional
  • Are taking part in a government pilot project
  • Have been asked to confirm a positive or inconclusive test result
  • Are in the National Tactical Response Group

Travellers may be fined if they are found to be using a NHS PCR test and must book a PCR Covid-19 test through a private provider.

What is the difference between lateral flow antigen and PCR Covid-19 tests?

Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests are often seen as the ""gold standard"" Covid-19 test for identifying clinical cases of coronavirus infection because they require laboratory analysis. The PCR is a diagnostic test that detects the virus’s RNA (genetic material) in a sample taken from a nose and throat swab. Once a sample is at the laboratory, enzymes known as 'reverse transcriptase' and 'DNA polymerase', are added to the swab to make copies of any viral RNA that is present. Copies of the RNA are picked up by 'primers' which show the genetic material has been found. As PCR tests require laboratory analysis, once a sample has been received by the laboratory, results typically take around 24 hours to be released to a customer.

Although they are also swab tests, lateral flow antigen test are quite different. Rather than detecting viral genetic material, lateral flow antigen tests detect proteins specific to coronavirus in the sample to detect if people have the virus. Lateral flow antigen tests perform well with high viral loads, so they are good at determining if someone is infectious with coronavirus. As lateral flow antigen tests do not require laboratory analysis, they return results faster - usually within 20 minutes - and work similarly to pregnancy tests.

What happens if I test positive while abroad before flying back to England?

If you test positive before your return flight to England, you will need to follow your destination's local authority's Covid-19 guidelines. You should conduct a second Covid-19 test, specifically a PCR test to confirm your coronavirus status, and expect to quarantine for a certain period of time or until you test negative.

+

What happens if my lateral flow antigen test result is inconclusive?

If your remote lateral flow antigen test result is inconclusive before your return flight to England, you will need to conduct a second Covid-19 test, specifically a PCR test to confirm your coronavirus status, and expect to quarantine for a certain period of time or until you test negative.

+
