COVID-19 tests for arrivals from 'green' and 'amber' countries
The UK Government's traffic light system rates foreign countries as red, amber, or green for Covid-19. These colours and a traveller's vaccination status determine the rules they must follow when entering England from abroad.
Travellers arriving from 'green countries' are not required to quarantine but must take a Covid-19 test on green day 2 after arriving in England. Travellers arriving from 'amber countries', who have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 in the UK as part of the NHS vaccine rollout, are not required to quarnatine but must take a Covid-19 PCR test on arrival day 2. Travellers from 'amber countries' who have not been fully vaccinated in the UK, are required to quarantine and take two PCR tests on arrival day 2 and 8. Travellers arriving in England from 'red countries' cannot purchase arrival tests from private providers and must purchase a managed Quarantine Package from the specific UK Government provider.

What are the requirements for arriving in England?
The UK Government's 'traffic light system' categorises countries based on different Covid-19 factors including the rate of infection, the prevalence of variants of concern, the percentage of their population that have been vaccinated, and the country's access to reliable scientific data and genomic sequencing. The restrictions for inbound passengers include 10-day managed quarantine, home quarantine, and stringent testing - but these will apply to people differently, depending on whether the destination visited is categorised as ‘green’, ‘amber’ or ‘red’:
Green: arrivals will need to take a pre-departure test, as well as a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test on or before day 2 of their arrival to England - but will not need to quarantine on return (unless they receive a positive result) or take any additional tests. Purchase a Green Day 2 Test here.
Amber: arrivals will need to quarantine for a period of 10 days and take a pre-departure test, and a PCR test on day 2 and day 8 with the option for Test to Release on day 5 to end self-isolation early. Purchase the Amber Day 2 and 8 Tests here. Purchase a optional Test to Release Test here.
Red: arrivals will be subject to restrictions currently in place for ‘red list’ countries which include a 10-day stay in a managed quarantine hotel, pre-departure testing and PCR testing on day 2 and 8

Which countries are eligible for the Arrival Tests from Project Screen?
Travellers arriving in England from countries that are on either the green list or amber list, based on the UK Government's traffic light system, are eligible to purchase arrival tests from Project Screen. Green arrivals will need to purchase a day 2 PCR home test kit. Amber arrivals will need to purchase two PCR tests for testing on day 2 and 8. Travellers from red list countries cannot use Project Screen arrival tests and will need to book the mandatory hotel quarantine and 2 PCR tests through the UK Government's website. To learn which countries are on each list and for more information, please visit the UK Government's website.
Travellers should follow separate advice if quarantining in:
What do I do if I am travelling from a red list country?
If you have been in or through any of the countries listed on the UK Government's red list in the previous 10 days, you will be refused entry to the UK. If you are a British or Irish national, or you have residency rights in the UK, you will be able to enter. You must quarantine in a government approved hotel for 10 days. You cannot use our Arrival bundles or Test to Release testing services.
For more information, please visit the UK Government's website.
When should I order my arrival tests?
Travellers should purchase their arrival tests - either Green Day 2 or Amber Day 2 and 8 - before flying to England.
Before you travel to England, you must provide your journey, contact details and your UK arrival address by completing the passenger locator form. You will also be required to provide the arrival tests booking reference number to complete your passenger locator form. You must do this within the 48 hours before you arrive.
How do I access my booking reference number?
After placing your order, you will find the reference number for your test(s) on the 'Order Confirmation' screen of our app. You will also receive an 'Order Confirmation' email that includes your tests reference number. If you are at all unsure or can't see your booking reference number, you can speak to our team, by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
How long does it take to receive the results?
Within 24 hours of us receiving your swab at our UK-based laboratory, your sample will be analysed, and your results will be delivered securely online.
You will be notified by email when your results are ready.
Can I end my quarantine early after arriving from an Amber list country?
Amber list travellers can still use the Test to Release for International Travel scheme. The scheme allows travellers to pay for an additional private COVID-19 test. If the result is negative, quarantine ends early. You can select between our Test to Release Home Covid-19 kits or visit one of our Test Pods in England to do your test.
You cannot use the Test to Release until you have been in England for 5 full days. The day you arrive in England counts as Day 0.
If you do not want to opt into the Test to Release scheme, you will need to self-isolate for the full 10 days. You cannot use the Test to Release scheme if you have been in or through any country that is on the red list in the 10 days before you arrive in England.
If you’re planning to use the Test to Release scheme, you must still take the Amber Arrival tests on day 2 and on day 8. Even if you get a negative result from your day 2 and day 5 (Test to Release) and are released from self-isolation, you still need to take a test on or after day 8 to check that you do not have COVID-19.
What happens if my result is positive?
If you get a positive result from your day 2 test, you must quarantine for 10 days beginning the day after the test was taken (this means until day 13). Your household will also need to quarantine until day 13.
You need to take a COVID-19 test on day 8, unless you got a positive result from your day 2 test.
If you get a positive test result from your day 8 test you will need to quarantine until day 19. Your household will also need to quarantine until day 19.
