Pre-departure and arrival tests available for stress-free travels to Europe this summer via Eurotunnel.
Travellers from the UK (aged 11+) travelling to France with Eurotunnel require a negative result from a PCR test taken in the previous 48 hours.
On 17th May 2021, a new traffic light system for international travel launched in the UK, and France is on the Amber list. Travellers arriving to England from 'amber countries' will need to quarantine for 10 days and take two PCR tests on day 2 and 8, with the option of also testing on amber day 5 to end self-isolation early.
Below you'll find the mandatory Covid-19 tests you'll need when travelling between the UK and France via Eurotunnel, along with a couple of optional add-on tests.
As a Eurotunnel customer, you have access to an exclusive discount code for all of these tests - don't forget to copy the code over into the checkout!
Self-collection coronavirus test for countries requiring negative PCR Covid-19 results for entry. Results within 24 hours after receipt at the laboratory.
Book an in person test at one of Project Screen's local Covid-19 Test Pods to take a guided, self-swab test for countries requiring negative PCR Covid-19 results for entry. Results within 24 hours after receipt at the laboratory.
If you need the UK Government's compulsory day 2 and day 8 quarantine tests after arriving in England from an amber country.
If you wish to reduce your self-isolation period, by testing on day 5 of your quarantine, after arriving in England from an amber country.
How do I know which tests to buy?
"The UK Government's 'traffic light system' categorises countries based on different Covid-19 factors including the rate of infection, the prevalence of variants of concern, the percentage of their population that have been vaccinated, and the country's access to reliable scientific data and genomic sequencing. The restrictions for inbound passengers include 10-day managed quarantine, home quarantine, and stringent testing - but these will apply to people differently, depending on whether the destination visited is categorised as ‘green’, ‘amber’ or ‘red’:
France is currently on the amber list and requires travellers to provide negative COVID-19 test results taken in the previous 72 hours. Amber arrivals will need to quarantine for a period of 10 days and take two PCR tests, on day 2 and day 8, with the option to Test to Release on day 5 to end self-isolation early.
If your final destination is not France and you are travelling to somewhere else in Europe, please ensure you have reviewed all of the relevant Covid-19 testing requirements on the UK Government's website, and the specific travel information for the country you are travelling to.
Can I do a test at the Eurotunnel Folkestone site?
No, there is no COVID-19 testing facility at the Eurotunnel site. You must make sure you have taken a PCR test in the 72 hours before travelling with Eurotunnel. You will not be allowed onto Eurotunnel without proof of a negative PCR test result.

Fit to Travel, Day 2 Test and Test to Release are all PCR tests. Fit to Travel costs less than the other two, can I just buy that test instead?
No, the Day 2 and Test to Release tests include the additional assay and viral genome sequencing required by the UK Government for the detection of variants of concern. These additional tests are not required for the outbound-only Fit to Travel PCR test.
Can I purchase multiple tests?
Yes, you will be able to add multiple tests by creating your account and adding additional profiles to your order before checkout.
I'm travelling with my family, do my children need to be tested?
Currently France require travellers aged 11 years and over to take a PCR test before travelling to France. However, different countries have different Covid-19 testing requirements for children with certain ages being exempt from testing. Review the specific testing requirements for your destination and proceed accordingly.
How accurate are the COVID-19 tests by Project Screen?
The testing conducted by Prenetics and our Laboratory partners use a variety of UKAS accredited and approved laboratory-based RT-PCR assays that have the highest levels of accuracy based on the QCED UK EQAP program.
How long do the results take?
For PCR tests: Within 24 hours of us receiving your swab at our UK-based laboratory, your sample will be analysed, and your results will be delivered securely online. You will be notified by email when your results are ready.
For Lateral Flow Antigen tests: You'll receive your results online within 20 minutes.

If we have dispatched your PCR test kit(s) order and you have not activated the test(s), we will offer a full refund minus £20 administration fee, with an additional £10 per each additional PCR test kit to a maximum of £50. If you have activated your test(s) or sent your completed PCR sample(s) to our laboratory for analysis, unfortunately, we cannot offer you a refund as your sample will be analysed by the laboratory. If we have dispatched your lateral flow antigen test kit(s), we will not provide a refund and you can use this test at a later date.
For the at home tests, how will I know I'm collecting my sample correctly?
For both the PCR and lateral flow antigen tests, we provide step-by-step guides showing how to conduct a self-collection test sample safely and accurately.
What documents should I have ready before I try to buy a test?

Should I pay for a test or get a free NHS test?
The UK Government's website states that travellers cannot use the National Health Service (NHS) PCR tests for pre-departure or arrival testing. The NHS PCR tests are strictly for people who:
Travellers may be fined if they are found to be using a NHS PCR test and must book a PCR Covid-19 test through a private provider.
What is the difference between lateral flow antigen and PCR Covid-19 tests?
Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests are often seen as the ""gold standard"" Covid-19 test for identifying clinical cases of coronavirus infection because they require laboratory analysis. The PCR is a diagnostic test that detects the virus’s RNA (genetic material) in a sample taken from a nose and throat swab. Once a sample is at the laboratory, enzymes known as 'reverse transcriptase' and 'DNA polymerase', are added to the swab to make copies of any viral RNA that is present. Copies of the RNA are picked up by 'primers' which show the genetic material has been found. As PCR tests require laboratory analysis, once a sample has been received by the laboratory, results typically take around 24 hours to be released to a customer.
Although they are also swab tests, lateral flow antigen test are quite different. Rather than detecting viral genetic material, lateral flow antigen tests detect proteins specific to coronavirus in the sample to detect if people have the virus. Lateral flow antigen tests perform well with high viral loads, so they are good at determining if someone is infectious with coronavirus. As lateral flow antigen tests do not require laboratory analysis, they return results faster - usually within 20 minutes - and work similarly to pregnancy tests.
What happens if I test positive while abroad before travelling back to England?
If you test positive before you are planning to return to England, you will need to follow your destination's local authority's Covid-19 guidelines. You should conduct a second Covid-19 test, specifically a PCR test to confirm your coronavirus status, and expect to quarantine for a certain period of time or until you test negative.
